MATCH-UP
The Devils are heading down to Carolina for their third and last match up with the Hurricanes. Carolina has two wins over New Jersey and we’re all hoping the Devils don’t get swept up tonight. To add fuel to the fire, the Devils fell out of the top eight while losing their third in the a row to the Rangers on Tuesday and the Hurricanes are trying to hold onto their playoff spot after their fourth straight loss.
The last time the two teams met was on March 9th in Carolina and it did not end well. There were a lot of goals scored, but they weren’t always in the Devils favor. Alexander Semin opened up the scoring, followed by Jay Harrison making it 2-0. Soon after, Patrik Elias took a penalty which thankfully led to a shorthanded goal by Ilya Kovalchuk to finish off the first period at 2-1. Jiri Tlusty made it 3-1 in the second period, followed by Chris Terry and Jeff Skinner to finish the second at 5-1. Jeff Frazee came in for Johan Hedberg at the start of the third, Kovalchuk and Elias managed to score 2 goals to put us at 5-3. Five goals wasn’t enough and Tlusty made it a 6-3 final with an empty netter.
HE’S BACK
After what seems like forever, Martin Brodeur will be back in goal tonight. His last game was a win over Washington on February 21st and due to a back injury he’s missed the last 13 games. I’m sure Hedberg is just as excited as the rest of us since he was really put to work with Marty gone.
